1. Texas Scramble - Format :
Each team shall consist of 2, 3 or 4 players playing in the SAME team. All members of the team shall hit one tee shot on every hole. The team then selects one tee shot and continues play from that point. This procedure is repeated until the ball is holed out.
2. Number of Tee Shots Required per Team :
In a team of FOUR, each player’s tee shot must be used at least FOUR times during the 18 holes competition.
In a team of THREE, each player’s tee shot must be used at least FIVE times,
In a team of TWO , each players tee shot must be used 7 times.
3. Where to Play From : Shots From OTHER THAN the Putting Green. Ball to be PLACED :
Each team member must play their shot from within one club length of the selected shot (Except when on the putting green). It is not necessary for the player with the chosen tee shot to play first. Any team member can play first. However, the ball may not be placed closer to the hole. In addition, if the selected tee shot was in the fairway, each member must place his/ her ball in the fairway to play the next shot. Likewise, if the selected tee shot was in the rough, bunker, water hazard, fringe, etc., each member of the team must place the ball in, and play from, respectively, the rough, bunker, water hazard, fringe etc. In every instance each team member may place the ball. Team members may rake bunkers between shots. All players may lift and clean the ball.
4. Where to Play From: Shots On the Putting Green. Ball to be PLACED :
Once the team’s balls have reached the putting green, the selected ball should be marked and another spot should be marked approximately 6 inches to the side, not nearer to the hole. This will allow the team to mark the ball so that all players can putt from the same spot without being disturbed by the ball marker. Once a ball is holed out, play is completed for that hole. Therefore, it is essential that the remaining players do not putt out, but if a player putts and misses and then inadvertently knocks the ball into the hole, then that score counts. On the green, team members are allowed to position themselves on or close to an extension of the line of play or the line of putt behind the ball
5. Handicap Requirements :
A limit of 36 strokes (Men) and 36 strokes (Ladies) applies ... this limit is applied before Handicap Allowance has been calculated.
This Format cannot be a Handicap Qualifier. It is important that the Competition Organizer balances all teams up fairly so as to avoid loading teams with low handicap players.
6. How to Determine Team Handicap and NET Score :
Handicap Allowance is 10% of combined Handicaps for 4 Player Teams, 15% of combined Handicaps for 3 Player Teams & 20% of combined Handicaps for 2 Player Teams (Pairs Texas Scramble).
Handicap Allowances will be calculated to one decimal place. Example:
4 Player Team with combined handicap of 48 x 10% = 4.8 strokes off total gross score (e.g. final gross is 71 - 4.8 = 66.2 net
3 Player Team with a combined handicap of 38 x 15% = 5.7 strokes off total gross score (e.g. final gross is 68 – 5.7 = 63
2 Player Team with a combined handicap of 23 x 20% = 4.6 strokes off total gross score (e.g. final gross is 70 – 4.6 = 65.4
